Off-Road Accessories Complete the Outfit: Lexus Dresses Up its SUVs
To show just how capable (and stylish!) its SUVs can be, Lexus dressed up the new GX and LX in off-road accessories for the SEMA show. Now, we want to go off-roading.
Dressed to Impress – With Capability and Style
After introducing the fully redesigned and retooled Lexus GX to much fanfare earlier this year, the company decided to spark inspiration for the off-road, overland and 4-wheel capabilities of this SUV at the SEMA show, or Specialty Equipment Marketing Association, by adding off-road accessories.
To showcase not just the proficiency of its SUVs, but how good they look too, the company dressed up the 2024 Lexus GX, as well as a 2022 model and a 2023 Lexus LX 600. These 4WD 3-row SUVs, typically considered to be more luxury city-drivers than true off-roaders, were shown with all the goodies that on their own might inspire you to look for adventure off the grid.

Accessories Make All the Difference
To accessorize the SUVs, Lexus introduced some new factory-available off-road accessories from the Lexus Associated Accessory Product (AAP) program, and selected some other aftermarket products, as well. The outfitted 2024 GX looks right at home alongside other Lexus vehicles on display including each generation of the GX and the 2022 LX600.

2022 Lexus GX460
The 2022 Lexus GX460, wrapped in an eye-catching matte yellow “Saffron” wrap, displays how Lexus’ SUVs are able to combine off-road capability with the well-known Lexus comfort seamlessly. It is displayed equipped with everything an adventurer would need for her next off-road excursion, including larger tires, a hammock, a roof rack, a weatherproof fridge and freezer, a portable air compressor, and recovery gear for the moment when a driver finds themselves facing the most extreme terrain.

The 2022 Lexus LX600
Wrapped in aquamarine, the 2022 LX600 intends to appeal to the weekender who takes their Lexus down an off-road trail to the lake or ocean for a couple of days of fun in the sun. This build features some Lexus available accessories, such as the appearance package with a matte gray grille, black chrome window trim, black door handles, side mirrors, and bumper trim, as well as 18” matte gray wheels.
This model also features some of Lexus’ standard off-roading technology, including multi-terrain select (which allows the driver to easily select a drive mode based on the type of terrain they are driving on for optimal performance), the multi-terrain monitor (a front-facing camera to show the driver what obstacles lay right in front of the front tires), crawl control (a low-speed cruise control to assist when constant, slow speed is needed to overcome an obstacle in the trail), and downhill assist control (a feature that helps the vehicle maintain a slow speed when descending a steep hill).
In addition to the factor-available features, this vehicle is also equipped with an aftermarket roof rack with a paddleboard mount and a full aftermarket camping kitchen.

2024 Lexus GX550 Overtrail + AAP build
Perhaps most exciting of all the Lexus-built vehicles is the 2024 Lexus GX550 Overtrail + AAP build, based on the GX Overtrail prototype Lexus revealed earlier this year. Many of the features on this vehicle will be available from the factory, including the 33” Toyo All-Terrain Tires, 18” wheels, and wider, black fenders. The rock rails along the side skirts, black badging, and on-board tire compressor are new accessories that will be available for the GX550 from Lexus AAP. All the technology in the LX600 that makes off-roading a breeze will also likely be available in the GX550 Overtrail and Overtrail +.
Built with off-road performance in mind, the Overtrail+ is also wider than the standard GX and will have an estimated 8,000-pound towing capacity. The GX550 Overtrail+ displayed at SEMA does feature a few aftermarket off-road accessories that are not available through Lexus, as well.
Also on display are Lexus owner builds to showcase how owners have modified their Lexus SUVs into unique, capable off-road monsters. A 2008 GX470, 2009 GX470, and 2010 GX460, these Lexuses show the heritage of Lexus in off-roading, harkening back to the first and second-generations of the GX SUV.
While this display showcases the potential of Lexus’ lineup of capable SUVs (both on and off-road), these cars are not for sale; if you want a car like this you’ll have to do it yourself – or find a modifier to do it for you. But keep in mind that installing aftermarket parts may void the factory warranty, impact performance, or may not be street legal.
