What I loved about the Ford Mustang Mach-E is that it’s an EV made by a long-time auto manufacturer. They know the devil is in the details, and while most manufacturers don’t always get it perfect, Ford got it really close with the Mach-E.
Most notably, the 2023 Ford Mustang Mach-E looks very much like a car. It’s a bit rounded off and aerodynamic, but it doesn’t look overly futuristic. Which, oddly, I think can make a car look dated.
The 2023 Ford Mustang Mach-E Premium starts at $42,895. My test car had all-wheel drive, a long-range battery, and fancy white paint, so it cost $67,070 before dealership fees and $68,370 after.

The Iconic Ford Mustang Mach-E is Oddly Under the Radar
I was surprised that even though the Mach-E has been around for a bit, many people still asked me what car it was. Despite many in the Ford fan community taking umbrage with the name, most people didn’t comment about it. Instead, they wanted to know how it compared to other EVs and how much it cost.
Most people loved the look, and I could not disagree (though, were I to buy my own, I would probably get it in red). I was really surprised that this early entry into the world of electric driving still seemed so unknown.
Ford says the Mach-E will get up to 290 miles of charge. The Mustang Mach-E is an AWD SUV, so it will use more charge than a low-profile, smaller sedan. But it is still within range of its competitors.

Electric Power is Always a Thrill
The charm of immediate and accessible power with an electric car is undeniable. The Mach-E had no shortage of charm and speed. It was adjustable through a series of settings in the giant touchscreen.
There were three different daily driving modes that adjusted the accessible speed, throttle response, and sound. Whisper, Engage, and Unbridle were the names of the modes, and I had great fun exploring them all.

The Drive Modes Are the Thing in the Ford Mustang Mach-E
The drive modes were definitely distinctive; this was no sleight of hand. Unbridled sounded great, had me pinned to my seat upon acceleration, and there was a lot more steering feel, too. But I also liked the more relaxed, chill vibe of Whisper and Engage and spent most of my time in Engage.
An Uncomplicated Interior
The interior of the Mach-E is simple but has lovely details. There is contrasted stitching on the seats; there is a gearshift knob on the center console and a couple of cupholders. The giant multimedia screen has a knob that you can use to adjust things like heat or volume, depending on the menu you are using.
You Can Make It Personal in the Ford Mustang Mach-E
The Mach-E also has menus for you to adjust settings to make it more personal. You can play with the ambient lighting. There is even a doodle pad for entertainment (perhaps while charging).
The Ford Mustang Mach-E is Comfortable for all Your People
The front seat has some good storage and creature comforts. In particular, there is an open compartment under the center console that is great for a purse. There’s a tray to put your devices in, and there are two charge ports right there for easy charging.
There is plenty of passenger space in the 2023 Ford Mustang Mach-E. Front and rear passengers have good leg and headroom, and the seats are comfortable and supportive.
The Comfort Continues in Back
In the back seat, there are two sets of lower tether anchors and three sets of top anchors, and the seat bench is deep and accommodating. The lower anchors themselves are recessed behind the leatherette slots. There are two cupholders in a fold-down armrest.
There is Pleasing Cargo Space in the Ford Mustang Mach-E
The Mach-E has good cargo space. Under the door, there is storage for the charging cable and a cool tire inflation kit. There is also enough room for a grocery run. Fortunately, there is a frunk with lots of extra room for gear or groceries.
I was glad to finally be able to test Ford’s iconic contribution to EV driving and I really enjoyed my time with the 2023 Ford Mustang Mach-E. It’s got a slightly-more-than-minimal aesthetic that I really enjoyed. In addition, the drive was fun and I enjoyed it being as mild or as aggressive as I wanted it to be. The Mustang Mach-E feels distinctively Ford, and I liked that.
