Sportier, Fancier and Now, All Hybrid https://agirlsguidetocars.com/2025-toyota-camry-first-drive-sportier-all-hybrid/ Thu, 18 Apr 2024 11:00:00 +0000 https://agirlsguidetocars.com/?p=633436 And, So Much Fun You Might Forget It’s a Sedan

I can’t believe that my first time driving a Toyota Camry was the 2025 model. Even though it’s been around for much of my life, I’ve been a Toyota Prius driver for almost two decades. Beginning with a 2006 Prius, which I passed on to my daughter, I bought a second one in 2016. Both are still reliably driven on a daily basis.

So what did I think my first time behind the wheel of the Camry? Impressed. But I have to believe that the hybrid and all wheel drive aspects of the 2025 Toyota Camry contributed to that. My test drive took me through the winding back roads and hills of San Diego County, where I live, and the Camry held its own, delivering a fun, capable and fuel efficient drive.

Hybrid Is Finally The Standard For All Toyotas

As the leader of hybrid technology, Toyota has been working hard toward extending electric technology throughout the brand’s entire fleet. To that end, beginning in 2025, every new Camry you’ll find on the market will be 100% hybrid. I’m all for standardizing hybrid engines, so of course, I was thrilled to finally get behind the wheel of the 2025 Camry HEV sedan and see how it fares given my Prius-loving bias.

The Toyota Camry is the best-selling sedan in the country, and for good reason: it’s filled with comforts and conveniences, so the sportier profile and trim detail for 2025 surprised me. But before I even get to exploring the 2025 look and styling, let me take a moment to “oooh” and “ahhh” at this new shade for the Camry line-up: Ocean Gem  I set my eyes on it and was instantly smitten – it matched my bag, my fave swimsuit, even my pedicured toes. It feels as if they chose it just for me.

The 2025 Toyota Camry is not the same-old-same-old. This 9th iteration gives a first impression that overrides whatever you’re thinking when you think Camry. For me, the Camry brings to mind a generic-looking, economical, and reliable car for the everyday person. Economic it still is, with a base model price of $28,000 ranging up to $36,000…and that puts a hybrid within reach of folks who can’t drop a chunk of change to make the switch.

The money-saving continues at the pump with an estimated 49 MPG, give or take a few depending on the model – front or all wheel drive.

The Camry has been redesigned for 2025 (right here in California), with a sportier look and a sportier drive, too. Reminds me of when the 2023 Prius re-design showed up, spurring a curiosity of knowing it’s a Toyota but looking sportier, yet different enough that you’re going to take a closer scan to see if it’s a new model altogether.

A Simplified Lineup for the 2025 Toyota Camry

All grades of the 2025 Toyota Camry, the SE, the XSE, the LE, and the XLE will be hybrid, and all grades will offer an optional all wheel drive for an additional $1,500. The 2.5-liter 4-cylinder hybrid engine is going to bump up the fuel efficiency closer to 50 MPG and deliver horsepower in a range of 225-232 (again, depending on the model). Improvements to the transmission and drivetrain produce a smoother delivery of power. So what that all translates to for me is that it really didn’t feel like I was driving a hybrid at all.

The simplified engine choice – there is one– replaces the three choices that ranged from 4 cylinder/208 HP, hybrid and a 6-cylinder/301 HP in the last generation.

The result is plenty of power with clean, smooth acceleration and braking, and you won’t miss the revving vibration of a larger engine or the clunky feel of earlier hybrids.

And you have to love this: When I turned on the ignition, I did a double take to make sure it was on, it was so delightfully quiet and smooth. Overall, it’s smooth when you need it and sporty when you want it. It’s really a winning recipe.

Sporty Goes Beyond the Engine in the 2025 Camry SE and XSE Grades

I absolutely love the style of the XSE, the top of the line model. It is one of the sportiest sedans I’ve seen from Toyota. Face on, you can’t help but notice the front side canards framing an impressive mesh grille. Sleek aerodynamic air ducts blend into the smooth hood, while the rear has more texture with the addition of a rear diffuser, lip spoiler, and an exposed dual-tip exhaust. But the coolest option for that sporty look is an available two-tone black metallic roof – available only on the XSE. It looks especially cool against the new for 2025 “Heavy Metal” silver paint. Inside, expect none other than Cockpit Red and real leather.

Both the SE and the XSE will have paddle shifters on either side of the leather trim steering wheel and shiny aluminum sport pedals. I mean, if you’re going to sit behind the wheel of a sedan without feeling like you’re driving a sedan, this one’s the way to go.

Next-Generation Control and Comfort in the 2025 Camry LE and XLE

I do have a sporty edge in the way I drive (yes, even in my Prius), I spent most of my morning in the Camry LXE AWD. It has the same engine, after all, so I was really interested to see how it would handle the curvier backroads of San Diego. It performed as anticipated: smooth when I wanted it and sporty when I needed it.

I loved that the steering and suspension were noticeably tight, and I felt in full control taking the turns. And braking felt less like a hybrid than I’ve experienced to date. With four drive modes available – SPORT, Normal, ECO, and EV – I found that Normal was entirely sufficient, which is good because there are a lot of drivers out there who just stick it in Normal and forget about it. However, I did feel a better grip and more power in SPORT mode, and I love ECO for driving around town and shorter commutes.

All the Tech and Safety Features You Like Are in the 2025 Toyota Camry

The Toyota Safety Sense package is standard, and it includes:

  • Blind Spot Monitor
  • Rear cross-traffic alert
  • Predictive fuel-efficient drive
  • Tire pressure monitor
  • Backup camera
  • Hill Start Assist Control

Technically Speaking, “Hey Toyota” is Just the Beginning.

Technology is always evolving, and the Camry is keeping pace nicely. You can now just say “Hey Toyota” for hands-free voice command assistance. The visual technology, though, is impressive and full of functionality. Both XLE and XSE models have a 12.3-inch digital driver display as standard, and both have an optional head-up display. The driver display can be customized using buttons on the steering wheel, so it is easy to toggle around to see your charge status, gas vs. electric consumption, drive mode, trip stats, range, tire traction, and more.

The audio and multimedia touchscreens have increased in size for all grades. Here, you have access to all your settings, wireless Bluetooth music streaming, hands-free phone, and Apple Car Play and Android Auto compatibility. I especially like to utilize full-screen navigation maps when driving, and they’re big enough that I don’t lose sight of the road. You can customize the map route to show traffic incidents, avoid tolls and highways, find parking, and also program your home or work.

Niceties Are for Camry Passengers, Too

Toyota has strategically placed 5 USB ports in the front and rear, plus a more powerful Qi wireless charger in the center console. All the climate controls are at your fingertips just under the touch screen, including available heated and ventilated driver and passenger seat functions. There are 8 cup and bottle holders throughout, so no more bumping elbows for drink holders. And, of course, no more fighting over charging ports, leaving passengers in the 2025 Toyota Camry with little to complain about.

Lastly, passengers in both front and back will be crazy about the optional panoramic glass tinted sunroof. It comes in the Premium Plus Package, along with ventilated front seats, driver seat memory, a 9-speaker JBL premium audio system, digital key compatibility, and a host of additional enhanced safety features like lane-change assist, safe exit alert, cross-traffic alert, traffic jam assist, and driver attention monitor.

Overall I am stoked that Toyota is really moving “full charge ahead” in its vision for a carbon-neutral future and normalizing hybrid technology while maintaining affordability, comfort, and safety. As a hybrid early adopter and fan, I approve.

First Drive: Does the All-Hybrid 2025 Toyota Camry Deliver Fun and Fancy? nonadult
For Boomers and Zoomers, the Subaru WRX is a Multi-Generational Must-Have https://agirlsguidetocars.com/2022-subaru-wrx-multi-generational-must-have/ Fri, 01 Mar 2024 12:00:17 +0000 https://agirlsguidetocars.com/?p=632471 Who Doesn’t Love a Fun Car?

The Subaru WRX wasn’t born at the same time I was. Technically, the Subaru WRX is a Millennial, born in 1993 as the Subaru Impreza WRX, a more powerful version of the sedan designed for “World Rally Experimental,” intended to race across trails and tracks. It was designed to thrill. Regardless of its year of birth, the pure joy I got from driving a WRX has me convinced that every one of needs to own one.

My test Subaru WRX was a retina-burning orange (which is just the way I like it). It had a manual transmission and other goodies that made my rebellious Gen X self ready to race and drift and take pink slips. Or just run to the store on my lunch hour with a little more pep in my step than I’d had without the WRX.

It’s sporty inside and out and runs a cool $32,735 to start. The WRX Limited I test drove rings up at $39,015 before destination fees. I also think it’s important for all my Gen X friends to know that the WRX comes with a CD player kit that adds $375 to the price tag, but immeasurable value to your life. If you still have your CD’s, that is.

But honestly, the more I drove the WRX, the more I realized it’s got not just something for everyone but lots of things for everyone of every generation of driving age.

The Subaru WRX is for People Who Like to Race, Right?

Just looking at the WRX lets you know it’s made for more than an errand runner. It’s got a scoop on the hood that is so cool (and functional). The fenders and wheel wells don’t just look like nifty angular chunky cutouts; they actually have air vents in them to help the air move along the car. The rear of the car has a spoiler on the trunk, black gloss details and black cladding surrounding the tailpipes. It all looks very intentional, very cohesive, and if you pay attention to Subaru WRXs at all, very WRX.

The WRX comes with some standard mechanical features that encourage that ear-to-ear smile. To begin with, Subaru gives the WRX a 271-horsepower turbocharged engine. The vehicle dynamics system has track mode, and the steering is just right. I loved cornering and how the steering wheel made me feel like I was participating in the turn, not just managing it. The WRX had enough body roll to give me a thrill but not make me feel as though I was out of control. I just wanted to drive everywhere. Kind of like when I got my license and was willing to run any errand for my mom or dad just to get out and drive.

So, there are a ton of reasons a WRX is a great car for everyone, racers and non-racers alike.

A Reminder to Millennials To … Go Out And Have Fun?

Millennials are the most likely age group to work from home. What a perfect environment to own a WRX, as it is most at home with no other cars in front of it. A daily commute may only serve to remind you that other people exist and they are in your way. Even if you’re not going fast, the WRX sounds fast, and that will make you smile ear to ear.

Then, the 2022 Subaru WRX Limited has a great manual transmission. The shifting is quick and easy; it would be a cinch to learn how to drive a stick shift in a WRX. The clutch isn’t too stiff, and I found each gear effortlessly. Driving during non-peak hours will reap its rewards, and you may find yourself running various errands throughout the day just to get behind the wheel for a few minutes. If you never learned how to drive a manual, the WRX would be a great car to learn with.

Why Generation Z Will Love a Subaru WRX

As drivers with less experience, Zoomers will appreciate that the WRX is all-wheel drive, so it has more capability in rough weather and traction on curvy roads. They’ll like that the WRX comes with EyeSight, Subaru’s suite of safety systems that includes blind-spot detection, lane change assist, and rear cross-traffic alert. Some trims have expanded pedestrian and cyclist detection, too. I found the adaptive cruise control easy to use; the controls were on the steering wheel and were a cinch to remember. And yes, this can be used with a manual transmission!

Let’s not forget, Gen Z are digital natives and would definitely embrace not just the drive the WRX provides but the interior, too. They’ll find the 11.6” multimedia screen in the WRX easy to use (because I did, too) and be right at home with Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. They’ll love the dual USB chargers in the front and in the rear.

They’ll appreciate the tactile details of the WRX, like the ultrasuede seats with the red stitching (swoon) and the aluminum pedals. After all, these are the people who are buying up all the Baby Boomer’s and Gen X’s old vinyl. They would love that Subaru lists “physical knobs for volume control and tune; physical buttons for temperature control.” The actual gauges on the driver display will be loved and appreciated, too, even though there is also a screen in there showing gas mileage, trip distances, and more.

Boomers Might Love the Subaru WRX the Most

Baby Boomers will love those throwback touches, too. Many might love the thrill of a car with a manual transmission, as well as knobs and buttons on the stereo and climate controls instead of touch screens and swipe bars. And, of course, you know they’ll love the safety features. They’ll love distinctive looks of the WRX, an unexpected delight. But most, I bet they’d love teaching their grandkids how to drive in one.

Boomers will also love that despite how sporty the WRX is, it’s still comfortable. Yes, you’re going to feel the road a bit, and that’s okay…it’s preferred, actually. But there is ample head and leg room in the front seat. The rear seat also has great leg and headroom. The seats are soft enough to be in for an extended period of time, and I loved the bolstered support. There is seating for three in the back seat, and there are technically three sets of lower tether anchors for child safety seats, but only available for two at a time. So, picking up the grandkids from school will work for many Boomer WRX owners.

WRX is a Subie for Everyone Who Loves a Fun Car

All generations may find the Subaru WRX’s fuel economy a little underwhelming at an estimated 19 in the city, 26 on the highway, and 22 combined. But this is a car built for speed and fun, so it’s understandable that will impact how often you visit the pump – something no generation loves.

But, it’s worth the price. While most us aren’t going to take this car to a track to make the most of the features of the Subaru WRX, the beauty of it is that you don’t have to. Many will be content with highway on-ramps and the right turn on a green light. The WRX will thrill you whether you’re new to driving, only driving when you have the road to yourself, enjoying the throwback touches or remembering why you loved the chance to go to the dry cleaners for your mom when you were 16.

2023 Honda Accord Hybrid Sport Review: Why This Sedan is So Popular https://agirlsguidetocars.com/2023-honda-accord-hybrid-sport-review/ Sun, 10 Dec 2023 14:59:38 +0000 https://agirlsguidetocars.com/?p=630776 Conveniences, Elegant Touches and Hybrid Performance

There’s a reason that the Honda Accord has been perennial favorite since it was introduced to drivers in the 1970’s: It’s a solidly reliable car with an elegant look, thoughtful touches and with each model year, more intuitive touches and details. It gives you a grown-up experience that lets you move through the world with confidence

For 2023, the Honda Accord has been completely redesigned. With a starting price of about $27K and as reviewed here, about $33K, it also continued the journey of including even more thoughtful details: capless fuel filler, personalized driver settings, wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto and an even smarter key that locks as you walk away from the car (with the key, of course).

And, it has a hybrid setup that gives you more control over how you use the car’s energy, even allowing you to increase the amount of power sent back to the battery through regenerative braking, and drive on all electric for a few miles if you wish. It’s a great way to learn electric driving if you’re inclined.

But what it really delivers is great fuel economy. Honda estimates the Accord Hybrid Sport model to get abut 44 MPG; we averaged 39 MPG during our test drive.

2023 Honda CR-V: Get Ready to Love Hybrid SUV Driving

Who This Car is For

  • Buyers who want an elegant but affordable sedan
  • Drivers who only occasionally have rear seat passengers
  • Drivers who prefer a sedan over an SUV
  • Drivers who drive long distances and appreciate good fuel economy
  • Buyers who want the electric car experience but aren’t ready to take the plunge
  • Buyers who want a solid, reliable car for the long haul

What You Need to Know

  • Seats 5 but is more comfortable for 4
  • Estimated to get 44 MPG; we averaged 39
  • Electric mode provides only a few miles of electric driving
  • Electric powertrain is intended to boost fuel economy rather than providing electric driving
  • Many of the more attractive features are only available in the top Touring model (wireless phone charger, Google operating system, premium sound)
  • Front wheel drive only; there is not an AWD option
  • Rear seat, while roomy, does not have air vents or USB ports (though the Touring model does)
  • Hybrids represent the top 4 of the 6-trim Accord lineup
  • Our Hybrid Sport model was nicely outfitted for the price of $31K

The 2023 Honda Pilot 3 Row SUV Now Has a Removable Seat for 7 or 8? Get Out!

Rear end and tail lights on the 2023 Honda Accord Sport

A Newly Redesigned Sedan, Inside and Out

A top reason for Honda’s popularity over the years (in addition to the brand’s reputation for reliability) has been its elegant, timeless look. And for 2023, this continues. Honda refined more than redesigned the look of the Accord, giving it a new honeycomb mesh front grille and sleeker LED headlights. On the rear end it still has a demurely pert spoiler on the trunk and now, a light bar that frames the “H” badge and incorporates slender new tail lights.

These refined details continue inside. The honeycomb grille is reflected in a panel that spans the entire dash and hides the air vents. It contrasts with the soft-touch dashboard and multimedia screen above, and the climate control panel below. At night the screens, dials and controls glow with backlighting (even the USB ports!), making everything really easy to see. The overall experience is elegant but also, very functional.

Our test model was equipped with some really nice features, including the 12” multimedia touch screen featuring Honda’s new system. It’s smart, customizable and can be updated via over the air updates. It also had wireless Apple CarPlay, which I really appreciate, and a solid suite of driver assist and safety features. Functions like adaptive cruise control and road sign reader are standard, which is fantastic. So many brands still charge for those, which are incredibly helpful on the road.

The command center with gear shift, drive mode selector an cup holders

Let’s Talk Hybrid: Driving in EV Mode

Four of the Accord trims are hybrid models; in fact, only the base model and the one above it are not hybrid. They feature only slightly less powerful engines and are estimated to get about 11 MPG (combined) less than the hybrid models.

With the hybrid trims, Honda includes a lot of coaching. Drivers can add energy to the battery, use it when they like or let it boost overall fuel economy. I like that you can ‘play’ with the hybrid system to get the feel for an electric car, pulling the left paddle to maximize regenerative braking and add power back to the battery.

When there is a significant charge on the battery — you can tell via the gauge on the left side of the driver display — you can tap the EV mode button on the center console and drive in all electric. You can only drive a few miles, so unless you have a solid reason for wanting to drive in all electric, keeping mind that depleting the battery’s charge also forces the system to use more gas. Ideally, it’s designed to supplement the gas engine to make it as efficient as possible. That’s how you’ll get the estimated 44MPG.

During our test drive I didn’t use the regenerative system much because I did a lot of highway driving. As a result, the battery level stayed pretty low and I averaged 39 MPG. The good news is, if you ignore the EV system altogether and drive as you normally would, you’ll do pretty well on fuel economy. And if you really want to push it, you can, and you’ll do better.

A digital driver display

How Does the Honda Accord Sport Hybrid Drive?

Good question. I wasn’t able to compare the Sporty Hybrid model to the non-sport models, however, all hybrids carry the same 204 HP motor which, because it’s hybrid, is relatively quiet. The Accord accelerates nicely on the highway and was easy to manage on local roads in traffic. I played with sport mode but didn’t notice much of a difference between sport and normal.

I could feel econ mode, however; it’s clear that there is more regenerative braking in econ mode. That, paired with pulling the left paddle, gave a more “electric car” feel to the drive experience. For much of my drive I operated in comfort (which I felt in reduced MPG) for the ease of driving in heavy traffic in the city and on the highway.

The roomy rear seat in the 2023 Honda Accord Hybrid Sport

Is the Honda Accord Sport Hybrid Good for Families?

Yes and no. Yes, in that there’s plenty of room for everyone to spread out, lots of rear seat legroom and the trunk is roomy for all the things you’ll need to carry.

The roomy rear seat could easily accommodate kids car seats; in fact, I had my two car seats in the Accord for about half of my test drive. However, only the Touring model has rear seat air vents and USB ports; I would not recommend the lower trims for families with kids in car seats or tweens or teens who need to plug in a phone (they can also get cranky about the lack of air vents). But if you plan to have kids in the rear seat most of the time, look at the Honda CH-R, which is much more ideal for families.

  • Our 2023 model was priced at $31,895 and with a $455 charge for the Radiant Red paint and $1,095 for destination and handling, it came in at $33,445.

Screens light up at night

What We Loved

  • This new design; it’s elegant and timeless
  • A very nice mix of features for about $32K
  • Thoughtful details are standard, including Apple CarPlay and a capless gas filler
  • Easy to drive and park
  • Customizable driver settings
  • EV drive mode familiarizes drivers with electric car driving
  • The new Honda multimedia system
  • A really solid option for the price

The Honda Accord gets me — my 25-year-old self who needs an affordable car with pampering touches and a sense of elegance and confidence. In this car there is no self-doubt, no second-guessing, no feeling left behind in terms of tech or features. Just a solidly built, elegant feeling grown up, efficient sedan.

2025 Toyota Camry: More Style and Safety (and No More V6) https://agirlsguidetocars.com/2025-toyota-camry-more-style-and-safety/ Wed, 15 Nov 2023 23:58:43 +0000 https://agirlsguidetocars.com/?p=629898 The Beloved Toyota Camry is About to Enter a New Season

Car lovers, I have a question for you. What is all hybrid, looks like a sport sedan, and all new for 2025? It’s the 9th iteration of the Toyota Camry! Since we have had many prior iterations, I think we know our way around a driver-friendly Camry by now, but this model just feels different. It looks sharper and sportier. Also, I’m really digging this Heavy Metal silver paint color with black contrasts. It’s really beautiful. It looks like a badass sedan, almost sportscar-like.

For me, though, this car isn’t just about the look. It makes a fantastic first impression, but it also has new tech inside and out, with Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 as standard, available all-wheel drive, and a purely hybrid engine for all trims.

The Camry Mystique

As we know, the Camry is the best-selling sedan in the United States, so naturally, Toyota decided to make it even better. Toyota’s 2.5 liter four-cylinder plus two electric motors makes its way into one of their sedans for the first time and has a standard 225 horsepower on the front-wheel drive and 232 hp on the available all-wheel drive. It’s important to note that for 2025, car buyers can now get all-wheel drive on all four trims of the new Camry (LE, SE, XLE, XSE). That means no more V6 option in this perennially admired sedan.

So Sporty: Camry XSE is a Sexy Sedan

This heavy metal with a black contrast roof is my jam. It’s a bit rock and roll and a bit sexy. This front end with the slim lights and cool grille shape looks like a sport sedan to me.

Not only does it look good, it is functional, too, the racing-inspired functional air intakes are real. The exposed dual-tip exhaust, black spoiler, and my favorite: black on-black rear badging pull together the whole look for the new Camry XSE.

This interior is Cockpit Red leather, adding to my list of things I love on the XSE. The other trims of the Camry get faux leather trim but still look amazing.

The XSE with all-wheel drive has 30 more horsepower than the previous Camry and a sport-tuned suspension which means I truly can’t wait to experience the drive and hope it’s as dynamic as I think it will be.

More Tech All Around, Please

The base trims get a new 7-inch digital driver display, while the top two get a 12.3-inch digital display for the driver. A head-up display is available on the XLE and XSE (top) trims

Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard across all trims, along with a wireless charge pad.

“Hey Toyota” voice assist is available with an active Drive Connect trial or subscription. This means you can use simple commands to change the temperature, get directions, and more. This also gets over-the-air updates to the software via WIFI.

Digital Key is a game changer. It means you can use your smartphone AS your car key fob and open, start, and drive with just your phone. This is phone-as-key and is available on the top two trims with a Remote Connect trial or subscription.

The Redesigned 2024 Acura TLX May Just Be the Perfect Hot Mom Car https://agirlsguidetocars.com/2024-acura-tlx-great-mom-car/ Thu, 02 Nov 2023 13:00:35 +0000 https://agirlsguidetocars.com/?p=629363 Are You Over the SUV and Need to Move On?

I get you. I love the space, conveniences and comforts of an SUV or minivan, But at some point, you car has to be about you. This is where the Acura TLX enters your radar. And for 2024, this sporty 4-door sedan that’s a blast to drive and pampers with luxury details, has been redesigned to be even smarter and sportier.

The Acura TLX is made drivers who love driving. Details like microsuede seat inserts that keep you planted on curvy roads, tech at your fingertips so you don’t have to take your eyes off the road, and a leather steering wheel that’s satisfying to hold define this car. But, it still allows the things you need as a parent. With 4 doors and space for kids car seats, you can accommodate them if you need to. If your kids are older they’ll appreciate moving up to a chic sedan after spending life in a minivan. And, the engine produces an amazing sound and is fun to drive, making the trek to  school pick-up a delight.

How Does the 2024 Model Compare to the 2023 Model?

I experienced the 2023 Acura TLX first-hand when I went to see the changes to the 2024 model. I can attest to its joy-to-drive factor. My self-awareness in this car is a perfect example of this delight: when I hopped on the freeway to head south to Long Beach from the airport, I put my favorite playlist on while driving. Despite the fact that I love listening to music in the car, I had to pause the music (more than once) so I could listen to that sweet engine when I put my foot down on the pedal.

And that’s the good news about this makeover: There are no changes to the existing powertrain. The standard TLX has a 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder with 272 horsepower, and the more powerful (and more fun) Type S has a 3.0-liter turbo V6 with a zoomy 355 horsepower. All trims come standard with a 10-speed automatic transmission. Whichever you choose, fast or faster, this car is a lot of fun.

New Tech and Enhancements in the 2024 Acura TLX

There are a few significant changes in the 2024 model regarding the sedan’s looks and technology. First of all, Acura is dropping the base trim of the TLX for 2024, and is making their super handling, all-wheel drive standard on the A-Spec (mid-level) trim. Front-wheel drive is still available on this sedan too.

New conveniences in the cabin include a larger driver display, which is customizable, and new multimedia screen that is 20% larger.  The system is still touch-pad controlled rather than touchscreen.

Even though I love a good display of my essential information while driving, the safety tech is what I’m more excited about. AcuraWatch, which is the collection of advanced driver assisted safety features, is updated for the better, with a wider front camera and sensor view and more range. This means it can detect pedestrians, bicycles, vehicles, white road lines, curbs, and road signs from further away than before. It is very comforting to know that the car is working with you to keep you and your family safe every single day.

The Type S also has a new 360-degree camera view for easing in and out of parking spaces. And the best part? Access it quickly by tapping a button on the end of the windshield wiper stalk and the camera image pops on to the screen. The rear blind spot monitoring range has increased too, to 82 feet, for lane change alert, which means more peace of mind when highway driving.

Aesthetics Abound in the Acura TLX

The tech is not the only update in the 2024 Acura TLX; aesthetics play a role too. I especially love the cleaner front end; gone is the surrounding border on the diamond-shaped grille as well as the clear panel of prior years. It looks a lot sleeker as a result, and I’m here for it, making this an even hotter mom car.

Enhancements made to the interior of the TLX that make it quieter may be the best update of all. Reduced noise from the road, wind and other cars and trucks make the cabin a respite, perfect for taking a drive to soothe a cranky kid to sleep. And he supportive power seats and premium sound will soothe you when you need to clear your head after a long day of parenting.

Sporty Chic Will Always Win a Mom’s Heart

The lovely 2024 Acura TLX is enhanced and appealing, and it will be available at dealerships later this month. Pricing hasn’t been made available yet, but it shouldn’t be too far off the current price, which starts at about $40K.

When you see the new 2024 Acura TLX on the road and a mom behind the wheel, her kids experiencing the charm of this sporty sedan, won’t you feel a pang of envy? I know I will.

2023 Acura Integra A-Spec Review – A Fabulous Nod to its Younger Self https://agirlsguidetocars.com/acura-integra-a-spec-a-nod-to-young-self/ Mon, 16 Oct 2023 11:00:35 +0000 https://agirlsguidetocars.com/?p=628568 Many reviews of the Acura Integra begin with fun memories of the car we knew in the ’90s

Well, I am no different. My college boyfriend had an Acura Integra when I started dating him in 1995. He had a 4-door, it was red with tinted windows. I was excited to get behind the wheel of the 2023 Integra A-Spec because I was interested to see how much of the car felt familiar, if at all.

Ownership was a compelling enough thought before I drove the car. My test car showed up, and it was gorgeous. What’s more, it had a manual transmission and a ton of features and still cost under $40,000. It was $35,800.00 before delivery and other charges.

A Girls Guide to Cars | 2023 Acura Integra A-Spec Review - A Fabulous Nod to its Younger Self - he front end of the Acure Integra A Spec

This New Iteration of the Acura Integra Looks Modern and Sharp

That is due to the creased metal at the bottom of the doors when you look at the car from the side. This Integra looks more like a fastback than that 4-door Integra of the 90s, but I’m not mad about it. In fact, the Integra doesn’t have a separate trunk like a sedan; it’s open to the rest of the car. The Integra has a nice swoosh in the lower part of the car that draws your eye to the back of the vehicle. The rear of the car has a pinched lid on the trunk that creates a spoiler. The tail lights come to a point towards the center of the back, and the dual tailpipes add to the sharp look of the car.

A Girls Guide to Cars | 2023 Acura Integra A-Spec Review - A Fabulous Nod to its Younger Self - Front row of the acura integra A Spec

The Front of the Acura Integra A-Spec is a Hottest Exterior Feature

It looked pretty badass if I’m being honest. The grille has the Acura “A” in the center, and the black mesh around it looks like you’re in hyperspace. It’s cool; it’s a graduated diamond pattern, and the way it catches the light, it looks like a burst. There are five creases in the hood that are probably helpful with aerodynamics, but I like that they also make the car look fast. I really just love how the Integra looks cohesive. All pieces look like they were designed together and well, nicely integrated.

I did drive my boyfriend’s car from time to time, and I really enjoyed it. It had a manual transmission and sat low to the ground. My test car did, too. And while the test car didn’t have a hot red exterior, it had a gorgeous red interior that made me grin whenever I opened the door. It was a perfect balance to the metallic charcoal grey exterior that was pretty, but if it were paired with a simpler interior, it would have been missing the wow factor that I like.

There were a ton of small details that added up to a spiced-up interior. For example, the air vents had a grille with a joystick in the center to direct airflow. The gear shift was metal, and the black leather boot had red stitching. The red leather seats had a charcoal-colored section so that it wasn’t too overwhelming. It was just the right amount of everything. The cupholders were easy to use but weren’t in the way despite being located just behind the gearshift. They’re placed pretty low down, so unless you have a really tall cup, you can manage shifting without issue.

I loved the subdued exterior of this car.

Did the Acura Integra A-Spec Drive Like I Hoped it Would?

It was a total kick! I started out in Normal mode just to get used to things. The Integra has a 200-horsepower turbocharged 4-cylinder engine and a 6-speed manual transmission. I found that it was speedy, but it didn’t blow my hair back. The shifts were short and fun, and the clutch was really friendly. The Integra was fun and easy to drive around town. I was beginning to be smitten with the Integra, just like I was with that college boyfriend.

There are multiple drive modes in the Acura Integra A-Spec. I enjoyed Sport mode.

The Deal was Sealed when I put the Acura Integra into Sport Mode

This created a throatier noise from the exhaust and a stiffer suspension that meant I felt a lot more of the road. The turbo kicked in more aggressively and forced me into a smile and a giggle. Additionally, Integra offers an Individual mode, where you can set your preferences regarding steering and shifting, and exhaust noise. I would likely set this to create my ideal setup and never leave that mode. Fuel efficiency is estimated at 26 miles per gallon in the city, a whopping 36 on the highway, and a combined estimate of 30 miles per gallon.

I enjoyed zipping around running the most basic of errands but also enjoyed the Integra when I went out to a nice dinner and got a compliment from the valet. This is a fun 4-cylinder to rev up and go fast in, but it can also be seen in fancier environs and even shine there. It’s the best of both sporty and luxury worlds.

The drivers gauges are digital in the Acura Integra A-Spec.

The Acura Integra is Comfortable, Which is a Big Win

The sport seats are supportive, and both the front driver and passenger seats are powered. The higher window line makes you feel like you’re in a bit of a cocoon. Combined with being lower to the ground, I actually FELT fast before I even left my driveway. I really liked that. The Integra came with a 9” touchscreen. It was within easy reach, and the Acura apps were simple to use, though I found myself using Apple CarPlay most of the time. There is an actual volume/power knob on the screen, as well as forward and back buttons for the stereo. The Integra also places a Home and a Back button to use for the car’s menus. I actually liked that a lot, so I didn’t have to search in the menus or take my eye off the road to find these commands on a screen.

A big bonus was that the gauges in front of the steering wheel were also digital. It’s customizable; you can put the information up there that you use the most. Also, the 2023 Acura Integra A-Spec came with a head-up display, and I always find those so fun. You can also use Amazon Alexa to issue voice commands. It works well enough and served to remind me that I need to learn to speak “Alexa” more fluently. The Integra gave me a wireless charging pad that sits just in front of the gear shift, and I was so happy with it.

The back seat of the Integra is roomy enough for taller people if you can scoot the front seats forward a little. It will start to feel small for tall people if you’re going for a longer trip. It’ll also feel small if you have a couple of car seats back there. If car seats are a part of your life, the lower anchors are recessed a little behind a leather flap. They’re a little deep. So be sure this car will work for you by testing your specific car seat(s) out during a test drive. What you also want to know is that the center top tether anchor is located on the floor of the trunk and not the seat back.

The cargo space is actually pretty ample. It benefits from a 60/40 fold if you need more room, and it’s about average depth. You will be able to fit at least two carry-on-sized suitcases back there, but it seems like you could get four.

Luggage and groceries should fit nicely in the cargo area.

What You Should Know

  • The back seat is functional but doesn’t cater to passengers. Only one seat-back pocket, and though there are charging ports, there aren’t air vents.
  • It’s small and won’t grow with a family very well, but would be a great second car (date night, anyone?)
  • The Integra is a cousin to the Honda Civic
The interior of the Acura Integra A-Spec is hot, hot, hot!

What We Loved

  • Hot red interior, with suede inserts and grey details on the front seats
  • Great entry price for an upscale, fun sedan from a luxury brand
  • The manual transmission. Do it.
  • Fabulous trim details
I am considering a long term relationship with the Acura Integra A-Spec

A Commitment to the Acura Integra will Keep you Happy

So, while the 2023 Acura Integra A-Spec doesn’t exactly take a ton of design cues from the old one, and while it doesn’t have an obvious nod to the car of the past, the spirit of it is there. It’s a fun, sporty four-door that’s the perfect size for a single or couple. It is fun to drive and will make you smile with its higher-end finishes and details. I wound up marrying that college boyfriend, and by the end of my test, I was seriously considering a long-term relationship with a brand new Integra.

The 2023 Toyota Crown: A Most Regal Sedan Returns https://agirlsguidetocars.com/toyota-crown-a-most-regal-sedan-returns/ Sun, 27 Aug 2023 19:00:14 +0000 https://agirlsguidetocars.com/?p=625765 It’s Back, and it’s Impressive!

You see it driving through the neighborhood and you have to stop and look. The sportback design, part sleek sedan, part sporty crossover, looks modern and fresh and hints at the premium details inside. The Toyota Crown has returned to the US after a nearly half-century hiatus.

Aimed at captivating sedan lovers and dominating the large sedan sector, it brings with it a wave of innovation and adaptability to suit the evolving automotive landscape where SUVs reign supreme.

With its lifted frame and impressive 5.8” ground clearance, the 2023 Toyota Crown proudly stands taller than its predecessor, the Toyota Avalon. The perfect height for shorter drivers like me (yes, I’m 5’2 1/2″ – and I add the half!), it offers a great view of the road ahead (even though it’s a sedan).

Beyond its commanding presence, this sedan embraces eco-consciousness and fuel efficiency with all hybrid trims. This makes it an attractive choice for those prioritizing sustainability and more money in their bank accounts. For winter warriors on the East Coast like me, the all-wheel drive capability that comes standard proves invaluable.

The Toyota Crown Sets Hearts Racing, Outside and In

My heart races with excitement whenever I know a delivery will bring a head-turner, and the 2023 Toyota Crown Limited certainly exceeded my expectations! As soon as Toyota dropped it off for my review, I couldn’t help but think, “This looks different, and I absolutely love it!” The Supersonic Red exterior premium paint (for an extra $425) gives this sedan a vibrant, slightly flashy appearance that demands attention. The sportback design adds a touch of elegance, while the black leather-trimmed seats, with their 8-way power adjustments, ensure comfort on both short and long journeys.

During our time with the 2023 Toyota Crown, it never failed to turn heads wherever we went. People couldn’t help but whisper compliments as we passed by, and even my neighbor sent me a text expressing how much more impressive it looked in person than the photos online. The interior is equally impressive, boasting luxurious bronze-colored trimmings that adorn the dash and air vents.

Now, I bet you’re curious to know more about this exceptional sedan’s comeback after its astounding 50-year hiatus. The Limited trim, which I had the pleasure of test driving, has a total MSRP of $50,020. That price point offers a significant amount of features and capabilities. Let’s explore its safety, interior comfort, technology, and performance.

An Abundance of Practical Features Makes You Feel Safe

From enhanced visibility and top-notch safety features to comfort and convenience for all passengers, this car has got it covered.

The 2023 Toyota Crown delighted me with its unique ability to raise the seats, akin to a crossover, granting improved visibility while driving, courtesy of the Crown’s raised roof. The smooth transition from sitting to standing due to the optimal seat height was a remarkable feature that added to the overall driving experience.

The sedan comes equipped with the Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 driver aid suite, and its capabilities are truly next-level. The pedestrian detection system and the 360-degree camera system are standout features, providing an extra layer of security. I especially loved how the camera automatically activated when stopping at a red light, alerting me to pedestrians or cars approaching from behind. The camera’s clarity was impeccable, making it a valuable safety asset. Moreover, the updated pedestrian detection system now recognizes motorcyclists and guardrails, further enhancing safety on the road.

The automatic rain-detecting windshield wipers proved invaluable during a sudden downpour on our drive to the Montauk Lighthouse. Also, the ability to hide LATCH anchors with snap-on covers was a thoughtful touch that added to the car’s convenience. This would be useful when using my car for a girl’s night out, and I want to remove my daughter’s all-in-one car seat.

Interior Pleasures Found in the Toyota Crown

The 2023 Toyota Crown offers the sturdiness of a small SUV while maintaining swift and agile handling. During our drive to the Montauk Lighthouse, the automatic rain-detecting windshield wipers proved to be an invaluable feature, ensuring clear visibility during a sudden downpour. Additionally, the thoughtful touch of hiding LATCH anchors with snap-on covers adds to the car’s convenience, making it easy to remove my daughter’s all-in-one car seat when I use the car for a kid-free night out. These practical elements make the 2023 Toyota Crown even more versatile and user-friendly.

The cabin is a haven of tranquility, with an 11-speaker JBL sound system enveloping me in my favorite Sirius XM radio stations, masking any outside noise—well, except for the occasional sibling squabbles in the backseat.

While the panoramic fixed glass roof was a wonderful addition, I couldn’t help but wish for it to slide open. It struck a perfect balance between making the already roomy cabin feel even more roomy and avoiding tantrums from my three-year-old, who sometimes prefers not to ride with the windows open.

With all these nice features, the 2023 Toyota Crown has made a lasting impression on me. But we’re not done yet; in the next part, let’s dive into the technology that further elevates this sedan’s driving pleasures. Stay tuned for more!

Tech to Love in the Toyota Crown

The 2023 Toyota Crown not only delivers on performance and comfort but also excels in cutting-edge technology that enhances every aspect of your driving experience. These tech features add a touch of modernity and convenience, making the sedan a perfect companion on any journey. Here are my favorite tech features in this vehicle:

  • User-friendly Touchscreen – the 2023 Toyota Crown boasts a 12.3” touchscreen, providing a user-friendly interface to effortlessly navigate the entertainment system and access essential car settings. With this intuitive setup, staying connected and entertained on the road has never been easier.
  • Wireless Charging – embracing modern connectivity, the Toyota Crown offers Qi-compatible wireless smartphone charging, eliminating the hassle of cords and ensuring your device stays powered up throughout the journey. The wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality take integration to the next level, allowing you to access your favorite apps seamlessly and wirelessly.
  • LED Lighting – Traveling with a toddler becomes more enjoyable with the LED front and rear reading lights, creating a warm and cozy environment for reading to your little one during longer rides. Moreover, the cargo area light adds convenience when accessing belongings in the back, ensuring nothing gets left behind.
  • USB Port Abundance – Say goodbye to charging conflicts with the Toyota Crown’s thoughtful inclusion of four USB-C charge ports – two in the front and two in the rear.  This is in addition to the Qi-compatible wireless smartphone charging, ensuring that all devices remain fully charged. Additionally, a USB-A charge port in the front console further expands charging possibilities, accommodating various devices with ease.
The mommy and mini purses fit perfectly in the back with a rear-facing car seat.

Convenient Access and Safety for the Kids

On road trips, drink holders are a must, and the Toyota Crown delivers on this front. With two front and two rear cup holders, as well as two front-door and one rear bottle holder, there’s plenty of space to keep everyone’s beverages within reach. This thoughtful design feature enhances comfort during long journeys.

Safety is paramount, especially when it comes to transporting little ones. The Toyota Crown’s LATCH system includes lower anchors on the outboard rear seats and tether anchors on all rear seats. If you’re like my family and only need to install one seat, the availability of three anchors ensures versatility and peace of mind for parents.

As a parent, I genuinely appreciated the Rear-Seat Reminder feature in the Toyota Crown. This essential safety feature helps prevent tragic incidents by alerting drivers to check the back seat before exiting the vehicle. It is an important reminder to ensure no precious cargo, like our little ones, is accidentally left behind in the car.

The Safe Exit Assist feature is handy, particularly when you have a hasty pre-teen like mine who might not always check for approaching vehicles or cyclists before opening their doors. This feature on the Crown provides an added layer of safety by alerting occupants when a vehicle or cyclist is approaching from behind, minimizing the risk of potential collisions or losing a door.

The cargo capacity in the Toyota Crown trunk is similar to the amount in an SUV.

Ample Cargo Capacity

When it comes to family vehicles, cargo capacity is a top concern, and the 2023 Toyota Crown certainly delivers. This vehicle not only prioritizes cutting-edge technology but also places immense importance on interior comfort and passenger safety with thoughtful features.

With a generous 15.2 cubic feet of space and 60/40-split-folding rear seats, the Crown easily accommodated all our family’s carry-on luggage and more. During our adventure, it effortlessly held our toddler’s stroller, balance bike, and a bag of goodies from our time at Sweet Suite 2023. This sedan proves to be the epitome of practicality and versatility, ideal for families on the go.

Adding to the convenience, the Toyota Crown offers multiple ways to access its cargo space. Whether it’s through the dashboard button, the remote key fob, or the option under the trunk lid, you can effortlessly pop open the trunk even when your hands are full. While the accessible opening is a great feature, some users may find the manual trunk closing inconvenient. Nevertheless, with its ample cargo space and user-friendly access, the 2023 Toyota Crown is a reliable companion for any family adventure.

Toyota Crown: Power and Fuel Economy

The 2023 Toyota Crown impressively combines power and fuel efficiency across its various trims. The Limited trim, which I had the pleasure of driving, boasts a 236-horsepower, 2.5-liter four-cylinder hybrid engine, delivering remarkable performance while remaining fuel-efficient with an EPA-rated 41 mpg combined for city and highway driving. The XLE trim offers the same engine, providing the same impressive fuel economy, which I absolutely love as it means fewer visits to the gas station every week.

For those seeking even more power, the Platinum trim offers a 340-horsepower, 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder hybrid powertrain. While it delivers more vigor, it comes with a slightly lower EPA-rated fuel economy of 30 mpg combined.

We made it to Montauk Lighthouse! The Toyota Crown compliments it nicely! Photo: Kim S.

What Does This Car Cost?

The 2023 Toyota Crown lineup presents a range of options to suit different preferences and budgets. The XLE trim starts at an attractive MSRP of $39,950. The Limited trim, which I test-drove, starts at $45,550. However, the addition of the Advance Technology package tacks on an additional $2,950, increasing the total MSRP to $48,925 (minus the $1,095 delivery processing and handling fee), which includes:

  • 21” 10-spoke dark metallic alloy wheels,
  • Panoramic View Monitor, and
  • Remote Connect with Digital Key Capability

For those looking for the pinnacle of power and sophistication, the Platinum trim starts at $52,350. It offers an abundance of features while delivering a robust driving experience. While it may come with more power, it does sacrifice a bit on fuel economy compared to the other trims.

In conclusion, the 2023 Toyota Crown offers an array of trims to cater to diverse needs, providing a balance of power, fuel economy, and features at varying price points. Whether you prioritize efficiency, performance, or both, there’s a Toyota Crown trim to match your desires.

Who Should Drive the Toyota Crown?

The US remake of the Toyota Crown is a perfect choice for several groups of individuals. Firstly, it appeals to those who adore large sedans but find themselves contemplating the switch to an SUV. With its spaciousness and impressive cargo capacity, the Crown provides the best of both worlds, combining the elegance of a sedan with the practicality of an SUV. Additionally, for people like me, who prioritize the elevated height of an SUV for improved sightlines and visibility, the Toyota Crown gracefully caters to this preference with its lifted frame and 5.8″ ground clearance. Lastly, families of 3 to 5 members will find the Crown to be an ideal companion, offering ample space for passengers and cargo, ensuring comfort and convenience during all journeys. The 2023 Toyota Crown effortlessly caters to the needs and desires of various individuals, making it a top choice for those seeking a versatile and sophisticated sedan with SUV-like capabilities.

USED: 2013 Chevy Malibu LTZ: Bigger Is Not Always Better https://agirlsguidetocars.com/used-2013-chevy-malibu-ltz-review/ Mon, 05 Jun 2023 16:04:55 +0000 http://127.0.0.1/wordpress53/?p=239 Minivan Anxiety Led Me to the Chevy Malibu LTZ

Lots os people enjoy minivans as their family vehicle, but I prefer a sedan.

In the small suburban town where I live, every third or fourth car I pass is a mom in a minivan or SUV, sunglasses on, latte in the cup holder, and a cell phone pressed to her ear. You know the ones I’m talking about, right? Unfortunately (or fortunately) I am one of those moms. Don’t judge. Only one difference – I am the mom that isn’t in the minivan or SUV. I’m in a 4-door sedan. And I LOVE it.

However, last summer my husband and I made the joint decision that we are going to bury our little grocery-getter and start looking for something bigger and newer. Our old car had seen its fair share of Rocky Mountains, Ozark horizons, Kansas prairies, and even the Gulf of Mexico. But it was time to move on. Our boys aren’t getting smaller anytime soon. Soccer and baseball games just won’t slow down. And summer road trips are just starting.

So many reasons to look at SUVs, but…

An SUV just seemed logical. They were more spacious, they had all the cargo room I would need for groceries, sports equipment, strollers, etc. I’ve always said that I would never drive a minivan. Nothing against minivan drivers. I think you’re all beautiful, brilliant, and brave. But I don’t dig the seating arrangement in them. I only have two kids – not ten. And maybe I don’t want to haul my children’s friends around. Having a minivan just opens that door for people to assume that you’ll do that for them. Okay, maybe that’s just my fear. But it’s a real fear, y’all.

So when I recently traveled to Disney World’s Yacht Club Resort for a business retreat partly sponsored by Chevrolet, they gave me the opportunity to test drive some new autos before venturing out into the car lots to try and figure out what it was I was really looking for. They brought everything from soccer mom cars to cool mom cars to a car that every woman should drive at least once in her lifetime.

I vowed when I saw the fleet of cars that I would remain open minded even though I was dead set on taking home the Chevy Traverse. I went for a spin in the Volt. But it was too complicated for me. I have a toddler – so he obviously needs my attention more than how much regeneration my battery was getting. Plus I have a short attention span and a husband with ADHD. A Volt is just not in the cards for us right now. Although I do find that car extremely Eco-awesome and in ten years, I will totally be calling up Chevrolet to find out about their newest plug-in car.

I test drove the Equinox and the Traverse and, predictably, I dug them. They had everything I wanted. Bigger, roomier, comfortable, and trendy. And then I test drove the Chevrolet Malibu LTZ– just to say that I did. Here’s me to the Malibu expert: “How the heck do I unlock it?” The expert guy: “You touch the door handle with the key.” Me: “Shut the front door! Not literally. Figuratively.” The expert guy: “Now put the keys in your pocket and click that button on the car.” Me: {clicking the button} “Holy Batman! I just started the car from my pocket!” So there’s that. Sometimes it’s the little things.

The Chevrolet Malibu is designed with this in mind: Protection is great. But prevention is better. So when the Malibu received double honors for safety including a 5-Star Overall Vehicle Score from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, it came as no shocker.

The secret compartment in the Chevy Malibu LTZ.

What we loved in the Chevrolet Malibu LTZ:

  • Eight standard airbags including side-curtain airbags, pelvic/thorax side-impact airbags for front and rear passengers and front knee airbags
  • Large four-wheel disc brakes with standard anti-lock which help ensure reliable stopping performance
  • Standard traction and stability control systems to keep you on the straight and narrow
  • Advanced Safety Package: forward collision alert and lane departure warnings – I was blown away by the lane departure warning. We were on a designated course and I had open road. I was checking out another feature when I slowly veered to the left without signaling. The Malibu yelled at me. Okay, beeped. But still. I was alerted. And I corrected my mistake.
  • Tire pressure monitor system
  • Daytime running lights
  • OnStar with turn-by-turn navigation assistance, crash response and theft deterrent
  • Rear Vision Camera – The available rear vision camera on Malibu displays a rear view on the touch-screen conveniently in the center stack for easy viewing. This feature helps you see stationary objects behind your Malibu when traveling in reverse at low speeds. This is key for little ones who don’t like Mom to leave without them. Ahem.

Other things worth noting:

  • Extremely comfortable seats that I didn’t want to get out of
  • Her beautiful sleek leather interior
  • It has this really cool secret compartment behind the navigation screen. Shhh!
  • She’s easy to drive and has plenty of power. The smoothness and quietness of the drive was almost nostalgic.
  • Very family friendly: Large wide opening doors. Plenty of head and legroom (the seats move back, forward, up, or down). The cargo space is large enough I can fit a body … err … a giant bag of sports equipment in.
  • It’s a car that everyone will get along in – hey, at least we can dream about that, right?
  • Retail price for this model: About $35,000

The Chevy Malibu LTZ has the brains to match the beauty. It has an ECOTEC 2.4L engine with eAssist technology that works subtly with the vehicle’s mechanics, capturing energy to help support the powertrain. The result is a noteworthy EPA-estimated 37-MPG on the highway and up to 580 highway miles per tank. It’s a vehicle that uses fuel when you need it, and preserves it when you don’t.

GM has “gotten it.” They put together a team of Moms called the Malibu Moms to help enhance the 2013 Chevrolet Malibu. And boy, did they! Fuel Efficient and Aerodynamics engineer Suzy Cody worked on giving the 2013 Chevy Malibu a superior wind drag rating. As a mom of two boys, making the Malibu a fuel efficient-choice for frugal moms was important to her. “Every dollar I spend on gasoline is a dollar I’m not investing in my boys’ futures,” Cody said. She’s like the female equivalent of Einstein!

Enjoying a drive has never been so easy and entertaining. There’s a choice of audio systems, an optional navigation system, and plenty of device connectivity on hand. Chevy calls its newest advanced connectivity system “MyLink.” My Link’s focal point is a bright, clear seven-inch full-color touch screen, allowing you to manage the audio functions, which include Pandora and Stitcher Internet radio apps. You can load your own music via a flash drive or CDs, and if you don’t want to futz with the screen, call the shots via GM’s latest, enhanced hands-free voice recognition system. I love it when I tell a thing what to do and it actually does what I ask.

This is how we test the trunk space around here.

I’ve certainly thrown out all preconceived notions about the Chevrolet Malibu. Before, I had this not-so-good perception that all it was was the boring rental car you’re given at the airport. Or the family car your grandparents once drove while you and your sister fought in the back seat. It’s not that at all! And I’ve also realized that bigger is not always better. I don’t need the SUV as my family vehicle if I have the Malibu. She’s perfect for my growing (size-wise, not people-wise) family.

Now I just need to convince the mister into taking her for a spin. Maybe if I crank some Guns n’ Roses on the Pioneer® premium 9-speaker 250-watt amplified sound system will help a little bit. It definitely can’t hurt.

Disclosure: Chevrolet provided the Malibu LTZ for this test drive and was a partial sponsor of our event at Disney.

USED: 2019 Audi A7: Why We ❤️ This Fast, Fun Luxury Sedan https://agirlsguidetocars.com/2019-audi-a7-luxury-sports-sedan/ Tue, 18 Apr 2023 16:00:58 +0000 https://agirlsguidetocars.com/?p=35154 This is not your Grandma’s four door sedan. And you’ll be glad.

I remember riding around in my grandma’s giant, yacht-sized four-door car. She could fit about seven people in there with room to spare. It would float down the highway with ease once it got up to speed, but that would take a good mile with the pedal to the metal. We’d roll the windows down and put our hands out, playing airplane with the wind. It was comfortable and spacious, and we loved it. It was not fast by any stretch of the imagination, and stopping on a dime? Forget about it.

Fast forward a few decades.  Audi has been at the top of the luxury car class for generations. They know drivers, and they know families. With the newly redesigned 2019 Audi A7, which starts at $68,0000 and tops out at about $80,000, Audi has given the people exactly what they’ve always wanted. Not only have they engineered and built this sports car for the driver, they built this sports car with the 3 to 4 passengers in mind as well. What? Yes, a sports car with crazy-quick-off-the-line, put you in the back of your seat, speed. This A7 is not only fast, but it has the room to bring guests along for the ride. And maybe a memory or two in the process.

It’s So Quick, You Just Might Keep Up With Traffic in Austin

I’m sure it’s about the same on any highway in any big city. When there’s an opening in the traffic, you have to just go! Luckily, the new Audi A7 quattro (Audi’s term for all wheel drive) has four drive mode select settings that cater to anyones driving style: Comfort, Auto, Dynamic and Individual. Choose the Dynamic mode, and you will get from 0-60 miles per hour in 5.2 seconds, which is just as fun as it sounds! The brakes are top notch too. They seemed unfazed by the quick stops made in rush hour traffic.

While the majority of the car continues the same sleek body lines, most of the significant changes are around the back. Dramatic, full-length LED tail lights run along the entire back of the Audi A7 trunk. These 13 individual strips of LED’s play quite the light show when the unlock button is pressed on the key fob, especially at night.

Right above that sits the ultra sloped, hands-free power liftgate. I thought this feature came in handy especially walking up to the car with bags of groceries in hand. Once open, you’ll notice the largest cargo space in the class. We packed luggage for 5 people for a weekend getaway and plenty of room left over. It’s almost like having a station wagon. Almost. One other cool option I really enjoyed, was the active spoiler that pops up on the trunk when you reach seeds above 75 mph. It definitely looks and feels like you’re driving a race car.

Three’s Not A Crowd: Oh That Interior Space Though

The first thing I noticed as I popped open the frameless drivers door? The amount of space inside the cabin. I felt like I sunk down into a race car cockpit. The driver’s seat can easily accommodate someone on the taller side, with plenty of room to stretch out. The seats are both plush and sporty, with rich leather, optional heated and ventilated 12-way adjustable front seats with massage function. Even your passengers in the back get to enjoy contoured heated seats, along with 2 USB ports and a 12v power supply.  There was plenty of space back there for 3 adults, with more than enough room to feel like you weren’t in each other’s bubble.

Sometimes, you just need to go for a drive. You need to get out of the house or away from the office, and drive. Luckily, the cockpit of the Audi A7 is made just for that.  The second you sink down into the contoured, rich leather seat you’ll feel all your worries melt away. Close the door and the cabin is perfectly quiet.

All the menus and controls are angled towards the driver, creating a very user-friendly experience.

AUDI A7 LUXURY SEDAN

Audi did us a favor and got rid of all the clutter of the buttons, toggles, and switches. Those are replaced with two touch screens that are extremely quick and sharp, called the MMI touch response. It provides you all the information you need, such as navigation (“Where’s the nearest Starbucks?”), Apple CarPlay, your phone, your messages, and information about the car itself. Something I really love was it’s 360-degree view camera. It was especially cool when I was backing out of a parking lot, or going through the car wash. It even showed me a picture of it getting washed!

Things We Loved

  • Apple CarPlay
  • Heated/ventilated seats
  • Paddle shifters
  • Above parking camera – and the washing pic
  • Taillight show when unlocking
  • Larger console with wireless charging and USB
  • Ambient lighting on the dash, doors, and floorboards that change to match any mood

I feel like you get a lot of bang for your buck. There are three trim levels to choose from.

  • Premium trim level starts at $68,000 MSRP. It comes standard with all-wheel drive, MMI navigation, sunroof, LED headlights
  • Premium Plus trim level starts at $72,400 MSRP and comes standard with such luxuries as Audi virtual cockpit, Bang and Olufsen 3D premium sound system, top view camera system Virtual 3d view

All in all, this newly redesigned Audi A7 is fast, comfortable, rich looking, boasts an amazing amount of storage, is technologically advanced and is downright eye candy! It’s a perfect haven for your busy commute or that next road trip. But it’s definitely not your Grandma’s four-door sedan.

USED 2020 Toyota Camry XLE Hybrid: Safe, Fun and Cost-efficient 4-door Sedan https://agirlsguidetocars.com/2020-toyota-camry-hybrid-xle/ Thu, 06 Apr 2023 16:00:07 +0000 https://agirlsguidetocars.com/?p=41722 Perfect for small families and everyone in between.

I’m not new to the Totoya family. I have fond memories of taking trips in my dad’s 90s Toyota Camry. It was one of the most reliable vehicles he owned when I was growing up. I bet that if you ask most people about a reliable vehicle that has excellent fuel economy for city commuting or long-distance travel, the Toyota Camry will for sure be in the top three. Continuing with its legacy of building quality cars that feel good to drive, and is easy on your wallet, Toyota did not disappoint with the Toyota Camry Hybrid XLE, the Camry’s top-of-the-line model.

It doesn’t hurt that it looks good, too!

What We Love

As a fashion-focused woman in my mid-30s, this is a car in which I don’t mind being seen. The Camry has come a long way since the 90s. It’s a visually appealing 4-door sedan that is safe and fun to drive. Features that make it fun behind the wheel include:

  • Sport mode
  • Toyota Safety Sense driver assist and safety features
  • Heated and cooled front seats
  • Easy to find (and install) child car seat LATCH anchors
  • Super quiet hybrid drive
  • A roomy cabin, even in the back seat
  • Qi wireless phone charge pad

Sport Mode? Yes!

Hybrid sedans can be fun to drive, especially when there’s ‘Sport’ mode. The 4-cylinder 176 horsepower engine ramps up all the power in Sport mode, which is one of three drive modes the Camry has. It was one of my favorite drive modes, especially on the highway. The other modes include ECO, for those who want really maximize fuel economy, and Normal for a comfortable drive.

The 2020 Camry Hybrid XLE is stocked with safety features like this impeccably crisp Birdseye view camera.

It hits all the marks on safety

Toyota has added its top safety features to every model as standard equipment. Additionally, the 2020 Toyota Camry Hybrid proves its safety by earning five-star National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) rating, and was named an IIHS Top Safety Pick+. Additionally, it earned “Good” scores in all crash categories from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

It’s a car I would feel safe transporting my family in. Why? All that, plus the Toyota Safety Sense system, which includes:

  • Pre-crash detection and mitigation
  • Pedestrian detection
  • Lane departure alert with steering assist
  • Automatic high beams
  • Adaptive cruise control

Surprisingly roomy for kids car seats

If you’re toting children, there are two LATCH systems to install two child safety seats. We loved that we didn’t have to dig for the anchors. We just simply popped off the covers and used the LATCH to install the car seats.

I installed the Britax One4Life rear-facing seat for my 5-month-old and used a booster seat for my 9-year-old.

Plenty of Room for Adults, too

Speaking of the backseat, it is roomy! There’s about 30” of legroom in the back. To experience the comfort (or discomfort) of being a backseat passenger, I sat in the back in between my oldest daughter and the baby in the car seat. My legs weren’t cramped at all!

Another thing backseat passengers will notice is the smoothness of the ride. The Camry glides over bumps in the road like butter. Parents don’t have to fear an accidental ride over a pothole waking the kids.

Is this car on?

On several occasions, I had to double-check to see if the car was actually on. That is how quiet the engine is. Honestly, I’ve driven luxury 4-door sedans that cost more and were loud in comparison.

These days, peace and quiet are priceless. Having a car as quiet as this one, plus a moonroof, like the one this 4-door sedan has, can turn any commute into a zone of tranquility.

Money Left on the Table

Having a car can be expensive, especially when it comes to keeping the gas tank filled. Fortunately, due to the Camry Hybrid XLE’s excellent fuel economy – 47/48 city/highway mpg- having enough money for gas is the last worry you’ll have. You’ll be able to spend the money you’re saving on gas on fun things like a new outfit, shoes, or a spa day. I can use all three!

The 2020 Toyota Camry Hybrid XLE is a safe, fun-to-drive, cost-efficient hybrid 4-door sedan for small families and everyone in between.

Who do we see in this hybrid 4-door sedan?

This hybrid 4-door sedan has the money conscious in mind.

  • Someone who commutes frequently and needs to save on gas.
  • A single parent or small family in need of a roomy 4-door sedan that’s also cost-efficient.
  • A college student who needs a long-lasting, reliable vehicle that won’t break the bank.
  • A penny-pincher who likes a good-looking car but also prefers something cost-efficient.
  • Drivers who want top safety features.

It’s nice to see that the Toyota Camry is carrying on the tradition I remember so well from the ’90s: a long-lasting, reliable, fun-to-drive car that you don’t mind being seen in. Plus, the hybrid model is even more cost-efficient, and Toyota adds key things like driver assist and safety features, making it all the more fun on the road.
